You no longer see the conflict in Syria on the news every day. But unfortunately, that does not mean that things are going better in the country. In fact, many people in Syria are now having a harder time than ever.
Not only have houses, bridges and roads been shot down, the economy has also completely collapsed. As a result, almost the entire population of Syria now lives below the poverty line. Some 14.6 million people are in need of humanitarian aid. Many people get up in the morning without knowing how to get food for their family that day.
Light a Candle for the people in Syria and help[ their children to grow up and make things better.
You probably already knew that a terrible war is going on in Syria. But there are many other problems on top of that:
There is a huge economic crisis: 90% of Syrians live below the poverty line. They have less than $1.26 a day to live on.
Food has become as much as 86% more expensive since January 2021. Many Syrians cannot buy enough food because of the high inflation.
Many facilities are destroyed or obsolete. For example, about half of the water supplies are not working properly.
Cholera has recently broken out in the country. To prevent contamination, it is very important that people have access to clean water. Nearly half of the healthcare system has collapsed, and many people don’t have enough money for treatment or even a trip to the hospital. Many Syrians have had to flee in recent years. Some 6.7 million people are still displaced within their own country. Millions of people also live in camps in neighbouring countries, often under difficult circumstances.
